Dates of the hike

The starting point for the hike is the car park at Colle d'Oggia.

On the mountain side, a path leads steeply uphill (Fig. 1) across mountain meadows, a foothill and finally to the summit of Monte Grande (1,418 metres above sea level) (Figs. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9). The path is not always easy to see and is partly washed out by rainfall and worn down by cattle. There is an antenna system at the summit. From the summit, you have magnificent views of the surrounding valleys and mountain ranges. Pass the antenna system (Fig. 10) and follow the path (Figs. 11, 12, 13), which leads downhill, first through forest, then across meadows and back through forest. After about 1.2 km from Monte Grande (approx. ¾ - 1 hour), turn left (Fig. 14) onto a narrow path just before you come to a path on the right.

After a few metres, you will reach a signpost (Fig. 15). Follow the path, which is not always easy to see and leads downhill over rocks in places, towards Passo della Teglia (Figs. 16, 17, 18, 19). Finally, you will reach the summit of Monte Fenaira (Fig. 20). From there, you will have a magnificent panoramic view of the mountains (Toraggio, Pietravecchia and Monte Grai) on the border with Mercantour (France) and the Argentina Valley. From the summit, a path leads downhill through mountain meadows to Passo della Teglia (Figs. 21, 22, 23, 24).

From the pass, an unpaved path leads into the forest (Fig. 25). Follow this path (Figs. 26, 27, 28). After about 1.5 km from the pass, you will come to a fork in the path (Fig. 29). Here you can decide whether to turn right back to Monte Grande and Colle d'Oggia, or left to San Bernardo di Conio. To return to Monte Grande, follow the path you took on the way there.

The path to San Bernardo di Conio initially leads through forest and is mostly moderately downhill until it finally turns into a narrow path which, despite red markings on trees, is not always easy to recognise. For long stretches, the path runs parallel to a water pipe (Fig. 30). Finally, you pass a building (Fig. 31), a water basin (Fig. 33), which you bypass (Fig. 34), and after about 2.8 km you reach the provincial road that leads to San Bernardo di Conio (left) and, after about 2 km, uphill to Colle d'Oggia (right).
