Carpasio - Glori - Carpasio

Elevation profile
Distance: 10 km
Time: 4 ½ - 6 ½ hours / ore
Ascent: 598 m
Data on the hike
The hike starts at the church of Madonna di Ciazzime
You can reach the church (fig. 1) via a narrow road that branches off the provincial road leading from Carpasio towards Colle d'Oggia. Coming from Carpasio, turn left shortly after the village in a sharp right-hand bend (fig. 2a), coming from Colle d'Oggia, turn right shortly before the village of Carpasio in a sharp left-hand bend (fig. 1a). Drive along the little road as far as the church. You can leave your car there. You will return here at the end of the hike.

Now follow the signpost (fig. 2, 3 ) downhill. You will pass several abandoned, old stone houses (fig. 4, 5 ) and follow the path through the forest, which offers beautiful views of the valley (fig. 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 ) and finally leads to a crossroads after approx. 2.73 km (approx. 55 - 70 minutes).

Keep right there (Fig. 11). The path continues downhill through woods with some very old trees (figs. 12, 14). After about 4 kilometres you will reach the church Santuario della Madonna di Lourdes (fig. 15). From there you have a beautiful view of Glori (fig. 16).

The path turns into a track (Figs. 17, 18, 19), crosses a bridge and reaches Glori after about 4.8 kilometres. (fig. 20, 21). Pass the forecourt of the church (Fig. 22) and you will reach an agroturismo with a beautiful terrace. From there you have a wonderful view of the Argentino Valley and the surrounding mountains. It is about 5 kilometres to this point. Glori lies at around 590 metres above sea level. On the way back, you can decide whether you want to return the way you came or go over the Passo della caranche (at around 960 metres above sea level). The first 1.8 kilometres of this path are very steep in places. The path over the pass turns left after about 600 metres (Fig. 23) and is repeatedly marked with blue signs (dot, heart, arrow).

From this junction, you will come to a group of houses (Fontanili) at about 750 metres above sea level (Fig. 29) after about 1.2 km via a steep uphill path, partly with many steps (Fig. 24, 25, 26, 27, 28). Follow the path marked with blue dots steeply uphill (fig. 30, 31, 32).

After about 800 metres, the path runs more or less flat through the forest (Fig. 33). After another 800 m or so, turn left and after a few metres you will reach the top of the pass (figs. 34, 35). Follow the path initially downhill (Fig. 36) and then along the slope through the forest until you reach a clear blue marker after about 350 metres (Fig. 37), where you turn off to the right downhill, sometimes steeply and stony. The path is repeatedly marked with blue signs, some of which are difficult to recognise (Fig. 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45). Finally, the path leads almost flat, past an old house and dry stone walls (Fig. 46) back to the Madonna di Ciazzime church.
